Creating Entries

<Make a walkthru with screen shots to illustrate this process>

In short, to create a page go to either the Idols, Events, or Culture page. Check to see if the Entry you want to create is already there. If it is not there, edit the respective page and add the new entry at the the correct alphabetical spot. Follow that link and in the top corner click on the pencil icon to create the entry. You can use one of the templates below, or build the page from scratch. Its up to you. Before you create an entry, you must have at least 1 official link (a link to a website or twitter, or something). Please try to keep the entries on Idols as short as possible. However, for Culture entries, feel free to add as much detail as needed to inform fans.

The most basic way to create an entry in the wiki is to enclose a phrase in double brackets. Here is a New Page.

New Page

This creates a link to a new page with the lowercase name “new_page,” (for the wiki's url) It also creates a link to the entry of New Page if the page has already been created.

To create a namespace (a folder that groups pages) ust put a colon after the page name when creating it. Check out the Documentation on creating Namespaces for more information.

Creating a Start Page For The Namespace called NewPage

You can create a page with one name and then have the link text (what the link to the page says) say another name like “mai lynx tyxt iz sew gud.” You do this by using a pipe character → | in between what you want the entry to be called (New Page), and what you want the Link Text to be (My Words). Here is a link to a page using My Words.

My Words

Unlike the first part of the link (which defaults to lower case letters), the second part of the link, after the pipe is case sensitive.

If you really want to be fancy you can even link to specific parts of an Entry by using the hash mark (#) to indicate the section.

My Words#Official Links

However, be careful with linking to sections because if the page gets edited and that section is no longer there, the link will be broken.

Now for our purposes, when we create pages, we want English urls. When we create Page Titles and Link Text, however, we want them in their native language (which will often, but not always, be in Japanese). Please do not include special characters in the urls like stars or musical notes. Feel free to use special characters in the Titles on the pages or in Link text.

松田 聖子 (Matsuda Seiko)

If the Idol themselves uses a different translation for their name than a direct Japanese translation may suggest, please use whatever the artist calls themselves in English.

フィロソフィーのダンス(Dance For Philosophy)

If the Idol's name is in another language than their own language and they give a native translation, please use whatever their official name is, not the translation. Please include that information in their entry page! Just do not include it in the link name, because that is not their name.

Templates

Depending on the type of page, there are different templates you can use. Just copy and paste them when “creating a new page” to have a working outline

Notes:

  • These pages can get big and messy fast. Use Headings when a section gets longer than 2 or 3 paragraphs.
  • In these Entries, you may display as many pictures as needed to explain, but if the pictures are somewhere else online, just link to them and tell people why they should click. (Click this link to see an example of the merchandise at a live show)
  • In these Entries, you can embed as many videos as you would need to explain. But if it does not add anything substantial to the conversation, just link to it and describe whats in the link. No need to embed 5 videos all discussing the same topic. Pick the best one and embed it, link to the others.

Notes:

  • For Events tags there is an exclusive tag category called Recurring Interval. The reoccurring interval should be a quantity like weekly, monthly, Annual, Biannual, etc…
  • Start with the current year in a Header 2, then go backwards (in Header 2) by year chronologically until we reach the first year it was established.
  • For the individual events (Header 3) separate them by date in this format “MonthAbbreviation. NumericalDate” like “Apr. 22.”

Wiki Syntax

This Wiki's software is called Doku Wiki. You can read their manual about using their software here. You can read about how to properly use Doku Wiki's syntax here (Same as the one in the Edit Page).

InterWiki Shortcuts

Interwiki Shortcuts are ways to link to other wikis using shorthand. Regular links to other wikis work just fine, this is just an added feature. If you know of an idol related wiki and I have not put it here, please inform me so I can add it ASAP!

To use an Interwiki link use the abbreviation + the article name. For example:

Examples:
wp>Idol #wikipedia interwiki link
avex>Super_Girls # idol street interwiki link
h!p>Tsunku # hello project interwiki link

Embedding Video

The basic syntax looks like this:

Most regular videos can be embedded by using the youtube tag. You take the url and paste the part after the watch?v= part. So to embed the video for this url use this code.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1DgM_vES_A

To embed a playlist from Youtube, you must literally embed the html. So you must place the html tags around the embed code that Youtube gives you when you go to the share button.

<html>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PL80293F185036D1DE" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</html>

<html> <iframe width=“560” height=“315” src=“https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PL80293F185036D1DE” title=“YouTube video player” frameborder=“0” allow=“accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture” allowfullscreen></iframe> </html>

Using the Hidden Plugin

I added the Hidden plugin, that gives this functionality for image or video heavy areas, to help with loading the pages. You can put images in the hidden tag, but not headlines.

I have a picture for you to see

Use like this.

Deleting Pages

To delete a page, edit the page and erase everything in, then press save. You may need to delete a page when you incorrectly named an entry or entries get merged.

Editing the Sidebar (Drop Down Menu)

Note: Only admin can modify the sidebar. The Side Bar is the global drop down menu that allows for quick access links to places. Its a page like any other located at sidebar. This Page is restricted to Admin and should only link to pages that you need often.
